A bathing beach located in the Marche region near Fermo, characterized by gravel and sand with a gentle 3% slope. The beach is protected by artificial rock barriers and has an average width of 80 metres. The distance between average low and high water levels is approximately 80 metres, with astronomical tides of 30–50 cm.

Coastal bathing water body (Ete Vivo river mouth area). Average beach slope 3% on both emerged and submerged sections. Astronomical tide range 30–50 cm. Beach width 80 metres (average).

Location

Fermo municipality in the Marche region, Fermo province. The beach is situated 150 metres south of the mouth of the Ete Vivo river near Porto San Giorgio and Grottammare.

Water Quality

Water quality classification by year: 2015 Excellent; 2016 Good; 2017 Sufficient; 2018 Sufficient. 2015 E. coli 95th percentile 169.7, intestinal enterococci 61.2. 2016 E. coli 462.7, enterococci 157.1. 2017 E. coli 312.2 (90th percentile), enterococci 95.3. 2018 E. coli 329.6, enterococci 116.1 (95th percentile). Wastewater treatment plant at Contrada Salvano in Fermo with capacity for 40,000 population equivalents. Microbiological monitoring of E. coli at river mouth showed 1500–12000 CFU/100ml in 2013 and <10–4300 CFU/100ml in 2014.

Risks

Short-duration pollution events from accidental failures and overflow at the wastewater treatment plant. River Ete Vivo discharge 150 metres north of the bathing area receives final discharge from Salvano treatment plant. A pump station with discharge into Ete Vivo river is located in the Via Solferino direction. Bathing prohibition orders and warning signage are in place during anomalous situations.
