A coastal bathing area located 200 metres south of the Arielli River mouth in Ortona, Abruzzo. The beach is sandy with an approximate width of 50 metres. The area is characterised by coastal erosion that has significantly redefined the shoreline. The bathing water is classified as poor quality. The Arielli River basin drains into this area.

Beach establishments (stabilimenti balneari) are present. Animal access is prohibited by regional regulation and bathing ordinance.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Poor. River mouth discharge is identified as a source of impact on bathing water quality. An Arielli wastewater treatment plant with activated sludge process discharges to the area; the facility includes screening, grit removal, oxidation, secondary sedimentation, sludge stabilisation, and disinfection with peracetic acid.

Risks

Coastal erosion affecting the shoreline. No cyanobacterial blooms detected in the marine waters of the Abruzzo coast. Sparse phytoplankton blooms occur in summer; occasional dinoflagellate blooms with low or absent toxic species have been recorded in previous years.
