Foce Fiume Riccio is a sandy beach bathing area located in Ortona, Abruzzo, in the Chieti province of Italy. The beach spans 400 metres in width and is classified as a coastal water body with medium stability. The area attracts approximately 35,306 swimmers across its bathing facilities and is characterized by excellent water quality.

Location

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. No wastewater treatment plants, sea outfalls, or Imhoff tanks are present. River mouths identified as potential pollution source. No anomalous events reported. Marine waters in the Abruzzo area have not shown cyanobacteria blooms. Sparse phytoplankton blooms occur in summer; some dinoflagellate blooms without toxic species were recorded in previous years.

Risks

River mouth discharge (Foce Fluviale) identified as potential impact source. Occasional dinoflagellate blooms with scarce or absent toxic species reported in previous years. Short-duration pollution events currently under study with modelling approaches.
