The site is classified as transitional water and has been rated as excellent quality based on monitoring data from 2017-2020. The area covers 1.19 km and is situated at the limit of the Foce Capoiale canal port to the north.

Transitional water body within Lago di Varano (Varano Lake). The drainage basin is Canale S Frances.

Location

Cagnano Varano, province of Foggia, Puglia region, Italy. Located 30 meters downstream of the Capoiale channel mouth along the Varano Lake.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2017-2020). No direct wastewater discharges to the water body are present. The only potential point source of pollution is the Foce Capoiale canal port located at the northern boundary of the bathing area.

Risks

No short-duration pollution events were recorded in the last four years. The area is not characterized by algae or cyanobacteria blooms. No cases of potentially toxic algal proliferation have been detected.
