A fine sandy beach with a 3% average slope, protected by artificial rocky outcrops. The distance between average low water and high water mark (safe water limit) is approximately 80 metres. Astronomical tidal range is 30–50 centimetres. The surrounding area is urbanised with a railway line passing through it. Average beach width is 60 metres.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: E. The sewage treatment plant at San Michele, Lido di Fermo serves approximately 20,000 population equivalents in winter and 40,000 in summer, with a design capacity of 42,800 population equivalents. It is a biological treatment plant with activated sludge system. COD, BOD5, and suspended solids parameters were compliant in 2006 and 2007. Microbiological controls in 2008, 2009, and 2010 were compliant.

Risks

Sewage discharge from the treatment plant located 300 metres south at Fosso Rio Valloscura outlet. Accidental failures and overflow events possible at the pumping station (chalet 4 cerchi). No cyanobacterial proliferation reported. No macroalgae, phytoplankton, or potentially toxic species proliferation reported.
