A sandy-pebbly beach located 300 metres south of the San Giorgio stream in Guardavalle, Calabria. The coastline is articulated with a seabed slope of 1.1% from the shoreline to the 5-metre isobath. Sediment grain size ranges from 0.13 to 2 millimetres. The beach faces agricultural areas between the San Giorgio stream and the inhabited centre of Guardavalle.

Coastal water body. Beach area extends 0.882 square kilometres. Seabed slope averages 1.1% from shoreline to the 5-metre isobath. Sediment composition ranges from 0.13 to 2 millimetres in grain size.

Location

Guardavalle, Catanzaro Province, Calabria region, Italy. The bathing area is located 300 metres south of the San Giorgio stream.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. The Sentinella stream basin drains into this area. Wastewater treatment is provided by the Guardavalle treatment plant. No specific active protective measures are currently in place.

Risks

Accidental treatment plant malfunctions and overflow from the Guardavalle wastewater treatment facility have occurred as short-duration pollution events. No cyanobacterial proliferation events have been recorded in the past four years. No macroalgae, phytoplankton, or potentially toxic species proliferation has been documented.
