A sandy beach with dunes and exposed rocky cliffs located 50 metres north of the Borsacchio stream mouth. The beach is approximately 40 metres wide and situated in an urbanised area. A tourist village in the area provides assistance and first aid services.

Coastal water body categorised as coastal waters in a plain littoral zone with medium stability. Area of 1.030 square kilometres. Water body code IT_12_TRONTO_RICCIO.

Location

Roseto degli Abruzzi, Teramo province, Abruzzo region. Managed by the Capitaneria di Porto (Harbourmaster's Office), Lungomare Trieste 1, 64026 Roseto degli Abruzzi.

Tourist village with assistance and first aid services, disabled access facilities, toilets, restaurant, beach service, bungalows, and mobile homes.

Water Quality

Water quality classification is excellent. The wastewater network in the area is a separate system that converges at the treatment plant in Scerne, Pineto. The plant consists of two activated sludge lines and three biodisk lines with final disinfection. Treated effluent complies with limits set by Legislative Decree 152/06. The plant processes effluent from Pineto and southern and central Roseto, with final discharge into the Vomano river.

Risks

The Borsacchio stream mouth is identified as a source of pollution impact. Rare algal blooms occur during summer months. Some dinoflagellate blooms with low or absent toxic species were recorded in previous years. No cyanobacterial blooms characteristic of the Abruzzo marine waters have been observed.
