A beach located 500 metres south of the Chienti River mouth in Porto Sant'Elpidio, Marche region. The beach consists of gravel and sand with a gentle average slope of 3% on both emerged and submerged portions. It is protected by artificial breakwaters and has an average width of 20 metres. The distance between medium-low and high water (safe water limit) is approximately 80 metres, with astronomical tides ranging from 30 to 50 centimetres. The surrounding area consists of urban periphery, agricultural land, and a railway line.

Water Quality

Classification: Poor (Scarsa) for years 2015–2018. 2015: E. coli 90th percentile 1331.4 CFU/100 ml, intestinal enterococci 90th percentile 333.5 CFU/100 ml. 2016: E. coli 1754.5, enterococci 461.3. 2017: E. coli 1381.8, enterococci 366.9. 2018: E. coli 1534.6, enterococci 478.8. This is designated a permanently unsuitable bathing zone (YP). Pollution sources include the Chienti River mouth located approximately 250 metres north, the Civitanova Marche wastewater treatment plant and its discharge, combined sewer overflows along the river, and clear water discharges from the Porto Sant'Elpidio municipality.

Risks

The bathing water is permanently unsuitable for bathing due to influences from Chienti River discharge and urban wastewater from combined sewer overflow systems. Short-duration pollution events occur from accidental failures and overflow incidents. Anomalous situations were recorded in 2016 (one non-brief duration event) and 2018. No cyanobacterial proliferation was identified. No algal blooms were recorded during the monitoring period, and no health risk alerts were issued.
