This bathing water is located 700 metres south of the Chienti River mouth near Porto Sant'Elpidio. The beach consists of gravel and sand with a gentle 3% slope, both above and below the waterline, and is protected by artificial breakwaters. The distance between mean low water and high water (safe water limit) is approximately 80 metres. Astronomical tidal range is 30–50 centimetres. The surrounding area includes urban periphery, agricultural land, and a railway line.

Coastal bathing water body (Civitanova_Porto San Giorgio). Beach area covers 0.166 hectares. The beach has a 3% average slope both above and below the waterline.

Location

Porto Sant'Elpidio, Marche region, Province of Fermo. Located 700 metres south of the Chienti River mouth. Average beach width is 20 metres.

Water Quality

Water quality classification has been poor ('Scarsa') from 2015 through 2018. 2015: E. coli 90th percentile = 666.3 CFU/100 mL, intestinal enterococci 90th percentile = 221.8 CFU/100 mL. 2016: E. coli = 889.4, enterococci = 313.5. 2017: E. coli = 454.2, enterococci = 195.8. 2018: E. coli = 700.1, enterococci = 246.1. The bathing water is affected by river inputs from the Chienti River and untreated urban wastewater discharged into the river via multiple overflow points. The sewage treatment plant is located in Civitanova Marche, Fontanella zone.

Risks

The Chienti River mouth is located approximately 450 metres north of this bathing water. Untreated urban wastewater enters the river through multiple unspecified overflow points. Short-duration pollution events include accidental malfunctions and overflow incidents. Anomalous situations were recorded in 2016 (two non-brief duration events) and 2018 (one non-brief duration event). No cyanobacterial proliferation events were recorded. No algal or phytoplankton blooms or potentially toxic species proliferation were identified during the monitoring period.
