A sandy beach with quartz-feldspar and calcareous-flint sand, featuring a gentle slope of 1-3% on both emerged and submerged sections. The beach is protected by artificial rock barriers. The distance between medium-low and high water (safe water limit) is 80 meters, with astronomical tides of 30-50 centimeters. The beach has an average width of 49 meters and is surrounded by urban settlements with a railway line passing nearby.

Location

Fano, Pesaro Urbino Province, Marche Region, Italy. The beach is located in a protected floristic area and is accessible via a bicycle path. Parking for people with disabilities is available, with an accessible path from parking to beach and to the sea.

Water Quality

Classification E. Non-toxic microalgae bloom (Noctiluca scintillans) occurred in 2008 and 2009 bathing seasons, causing anomalous water coloration. The Sejore Stream mouth discharges treated water from Trebbiantico treatment plant (800 inhabitants equivalent) and untreated domestic and storm wastewater from Trebbiantico (fewer than 2000 inhabitants equivalent). Three wastewater treatment plants serve the area: Ponte Metauro (main plant, over 50,000 inhabitants equivalent, treating approximately 12,000 cubic meters of wastewater daily), Bellocchi (approximately 2,000 cubic meters daily), and Ponte Sasso (1,000-1,500 cubic meters daily in winter, 3,000-4,000 in summer). All monitoring results conform to legal limits.

Risks

During intense rainfall, overflow discharges occur through 17 total spillway structures along the coastal stretch (7 from Ponte Metauro, 10 from Ponte Sasso, 0 from Bellocchi), diverting untreated wastewater to various outlets bypassing treatment plants.
