Ahl Strand

Ahl Strand is a bathing beach located on the south side of the Ahl Hage peninsula in Ebeltoft Bay. The beach is 10–50 meters wide and consists of sand with gravel, stones, and some larger rocks toward the water's edge. It is a shallow, child-friendly beach with a distance of approximately 300 meters to reach a water depth of 2 meters. The beach is situated along a summer house area and a nature reserve at Ahl Hage.

Water

Ebeltoft Bay. The water body is characterized by a salinity of approximately 25 ‰ and water temperature varying between 10 °C and 22 °C during the bathing season. The main current in Ebeltoft Bay flows northward, though local currents at Ahl Strand depend on weather, wind, and coastal morphological conditions. The seabed consists of sand with gravel and stones.

Location

Ahl Strand is located in Syddjurs Municipality, Denmark. The parking area is located on Fyrrestien opposite Silkeborg Lejren, with signposted access. GPS coordinates: N 56° 10.378', E 10° 38.562'. An additional parking area with approximately 25 spaces is located 150 meters southeast of the main beach area.

Season

The official bathing season is 1 May to 15 September. Water quality is monitored regularly during this period with 4 samples taken.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as 'Excellent'. The beach is monitored regularly during the bathing season. Analysis of bathing water data shows stable conditions and low bacterial levels. Possible sources of temporary pollution include faecal pollution from scattered buildings and manure leakage; algae blooms including blue-green algae, other microscopic algae, and seaweed; oil spills from ships; and pollen accumulations.

Risks

Risk of temporary faecal pollution is low. Risk of blue-green algae blooms is very low due to high salinity in the area. There is a high risk of mass blooms of various species of other microscopic algae during the bathing season. Small quantities of washed-up seaweed may occur during the bathing season. Pollen accumulations are a recurring phenomenon. Chemical pollution risk from ships is low, but accidental spills from maritime activity pose a potential risk.
