Bogens Strand

Denmark Coastal 1 - Excellent

Bogens Strand is a fine sand beach approximately 300 metres long and 20 metres wide located along Ebeltoft Bay in Denmark. The beach features shallow waters with a sandy bottom interspersed with gravel, reaching a depth of 2 metres between 75 and 100 metres from the shore. The beach is classified as having excellent water quality and is suitable for bathing, fishing, surfing, and kayaking.

Water

Sandy beach with minor gravel and small stone areas. Beach width approximately 20 metres, length approximately 300 metres. Water depth reaches 2 metres at 75–100 metres from shore. Salinity approximately 25 ‰. Water temperature varies between 17 °C and 22 °C during the bathing season.

Location

Bogens Strand is located near Ebeltoft, accessed via Fuglsøvej with approximately 50–60 parking spaces available. The beach is close to Mols Bjerge National Park.

Facilities

Parking spaces (more than 50), lifeguard station, tables and benches, public toilets.

Season

1 May to 15 September.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as excellent. Monitoring conducted regularly during the bathing season (1 May to 15 September) with 10 samples analysed. Bacterial levels are normally low with occasional slight elevation in certain years. Analysis shows low risk of faecal contamination during rainfall.

Risks

Moderate risk of seaweed wash-up during bathing season. Low risk of faecal contamination from private sewage systems during rainfall. Low risk of contamination from boat toilet tank emptying. Very low risk of cyanobacteria blooms due to high salinity. Low risk of chemical pollution from ships. Small risk of microscopic algal blooms. Pollen accumulations occur periodically, particularly in spring and early summer.
