Altausseer See Nord is a typical Alpine lake located in the Styrian Salzkammergut at the foot of the Totes Gebirge east of Altaussee. The approximately 2 km² lake is fed primarily by submarine springs, with no significant surface inflows.

Alpine lake with area of approximately 2 km². Mean depth 8 m, maximum depth 20 m. Water renewal time approximately 25 years. Catchment area composed of carbonate rocks of the northern limestone Alps covered by glacial deposits and holocene debris flow deposits.

Location

Located on the northern shore of the lake approximately 1200 m east of Altaussee town centre, in the area of the Kiellerbach alluvial fan. Not accessible by car; a parking area is located in the immediate vicinity.
