Anaouliontas

Cyprus Coastal 1 - Excellent

Anaouliontas is a sandy beach with a hard sandstone substrate located in a natural bay in the Paphos district of Cyprus. The northern section and the bay's edges are rocky. A pier with metal supports has been constructed at approximately the midpoint of the beach, and a submerged wave breaker in petal shape covers the entire natural entrance of the bay. The beach hosts a hotel facility with catering and recreational infrastructure. The beach is 70 metres long with an average water depth of 1.5 metres and a maximum depth of 2 metres.

Coastal water body in North Paphos. Beach length: 70 metres. Average water depth: 1.5 metres. Maximum water depth: 2 metres. Sandy seabed with rocks and Posidonia seagrass. Modified shoreline with underwater petal-shaped wave breaker.

Location

Paphos district, Paphos Municipality, Cyprus. Coordinates: 32.4045°E, 34.7719°N (ETRS89).

Facilities

Hotel facility with catering and recreational services. Toilets accessible through the hotel unit. Summer services including sunbeds and umbrellas. No public facilities for bathers. Beach cleaning performed manually and mechanically by the concessionaire.

Season

2008 onwards (monitoring programme start date). Bathing season occurs during warmer months when southeastern winds predominate.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as excellent based on monitoring data since 2008. The coastal body is in good ecological condition. Low risk of macroalgae and phytoplankton eutrophication.

Risks

Low likelihood of short-term pollution. Possible risk from malfunction of sewage systems at coastal developments, occurring approximately once during the bathing season with duration of 1–2 days. Unfavourable natural water circulation and renewal conditions in the bathing area.
