Δημοτικά Μπάνια is a rocky bathing area located east of Paphos harbour in Cyprus, approximately 500 metres from the port. A small central section of the beach features natural conditions with gravel and sand. The beach is 250 metres long with an average water depth of 1.5 metres and maximum depth of 3 metres. The seabed is primarily rocky with sparse sand and dense algae presence. Numerous commercial and tourist developments line the beach, with vegetation including palm trees on the eastern side.

Water

Mediterranean Sea (South Paphos water body). Beach length 250 metres, average water depth 1.5 metres, maximum water depth 3 metres. Rocky seabed with sparse sand and algae. The foreshore is highly modified with concrete structures, a semi-enclosed lagoon, the eastern arm of an ancient harbour, and vertical and parallel breakwaters.

Location

Eastern side of Paphos, Cyprus, approximately 500 metres from Paphos harbour. Located within the Paphos Municipality administrative area, Paphos District.

Facilities

Public facilities available. Rubbish collection bins throughout the beach. Summer amenities include loungers and umbrellas. Lifeguards and lifesaving equipment available from 11:00 to 17:30. Blue Flag status awarded. Multiple food and recreation venues present.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as exceptional based on monitoring data. The bathing water has been monitored for many years and is not associated with any internal surface water body. The coastal body to which it belongs is in good ecological condition. One short-term pollution incident was recorded between 2008 and 2010 (21 July 2009).

Risks

Moderate risk of macroalgae and phytoplankton development. Low risk of short-term pollution events. Potential pollution sources include surface water runoff from eastern Paphos and passing vessels to and from Paphos harbour, though wind direction during swimming season provides some mitigation.
