Palaiokastro is a sandy beach with a hard sandstone substrate located within a natural bay in the Paphos district of Cyprus. The beach stretches 167 meters and is bordered by rocky sections on its northern part and the bay's promontories. Two submarine breakwaters protect the natural entrance of the bay, with an additional lateral breakwater constructed on the right side. A hotel facility and food and beverage infrastructure are present on the beach.

Coastal water body named Northern Paphos. Average water depth: 1 meter. Maximum water depth: 2 meters within the breakwaters. Beach length: 167 meters. Sandy seabed with presence of Posidonia seagrass.

Paphos district, Paphos municipality, Cyprus. Coordinates: 34.77942572163795E, 32.40326412859365N. The monitoring point is located at the position where the largest concentration of swimmers is found.

Facilities

Chemical toilets, foot showers, and showers at public facilities during the swimming season. Hotel services also available to swimmers. Sunbeds and umbrellas offered during summer. Private operator manages the beach and is responsible for cleanliness using manual and mechanical means.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on monitoring data. The coastal body to which this water belongs is in good ecological condition. Low risk of macroalgae and phytoplankton eutrophication development.

Risks

Negligible risk of short-term pollution events. Possible source: malfunction of wastewater systems from beach developments. Average frequency: once during the swimming period. Expected duration: 1–2 days. No short-term pollution incidents were recorded during the 2020–2021 swimming seasons.
