Anse du Stole is a sheltered fine sand beach in the south-east of Plœmeur commune, Brittany. The beach measures over 500 metres along its foreshore and is surrounded by low rocky bars that are submerged at high tide. It is one of three major beaches in the commune and is situated near the border with Larmor-Plage. The bay is exposed to the south and sheltered from dominant westerly winds, having formed from the convergence of several rocky headlands framing an ancient bay that is now partly marshy and partly urbanised.

Water

Fine sand beach with submerged low rocky bars at high tide. Foreshore measures over 500 metres in length. The bay is sheltered from dominant westerly winds and exposed to the south. Part of the Plœmeur coastline, which has approximately 17 kilometres of coastal length consisting primarily of rocky shores interspersed with sandy coves.

Location

Plœmeur, south-east part of the commune near Larmor-Plage, separated from it by the Kerpape peninsula. Plœmeur is located in western Morbihan, Brittany, between the Laïta estuary (administrative border with Finistère) and Lorient roadstead.

Season

The profile was established for the 2011 bathing season in accordance with EU Directive 2006/7 requirements, effective from summer 2011.

Water Quality

The bathing water profile is classified as Type 1, indicating that water pollution risk is not established. The beach is one of eight declared bathing sites in Plœmeur commune, all classified as Type 1.

Risks

The profile identifies potential pollution sources related to agricultural activities, economic activities, and mooring activities in Anse du Stole. Potential risks from washout of catchment areas during summer storms are mentioned.
