Auxilium is a bathing area in Santa Margherita Ligure, Liguria, characterized by alternating pebble beach and artificial structures. The area is a tourist and residential zone with sand and gravel beaches, located near the small harbor of Santa Margherita Ligure. The bathing water is classified as excellent for the period 2008–2011. The Ligurian Sea is not characterized by cyanobacterial blooms due to prevailing oligotrophic conditions, and there have been no cases of potentially toxic algal strain proliferation.

Water

Coastal waters of the Portofino–Zoagli water body. The bathing area extends 1.535 kilometers. The area is fed by the Fosso Santa Barbara watershed.

Location

Santa Margherita Ligure, Genoa province, Liguria region. The area is located near the small harbor of Santa Margherita Ligure, in the northern part of the zone. Municipality contact: Piazza Mazzini 46, tel. 0185 2051.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2008–2011). The Ligurian Sea is not characterized by cyanobacterial blooms due to prevailing oligotrophic conditions. No cases of potentially toxic algal strain proliferation have been recorded.

Risks

The bathing area is served by the Punta Pedale wastewater treatment plant and an active marine outfall pipe. An analytical modeling approach for characterizing short-duration pollution events and anomalous situations is in development.
