Azul - Conchinha is a small non-urban beach surrounded by rocky outcrops that form a small cove. The beach has distinct characteristics shaped by its rocky surroundings. It is located in the Leça river basin.

Season

June 14 to September 14, 2025. Sampling frequency: every 2 weeks.

Water Quality

Water quality classification under Decreto-Lei 135/2009 (amended by Decreto-Lei 113/2012). Bathing was advised against or prohibited for 4 days during the 2024 bathing season due to short-term pollution events. Potential pollution sources include faecal contamination from the local wastewater network and the Boa Nova stream, which discharges near the bathing water. Short-term pollution is unlikely but can occur due to excessive surface flow from affluent water during rainfall, leading to microbiological contamination, or from untreated effluent discharge in case of sewage treatment plant malfunction.

Risks

Cyanobacteria proliferation potential is moderate with a history of blooms. Macroalgae and phytoplankton proliferation potential are low with no history of occurrence. Short-term pollution events are possible.
