Fuzelhas is an urban beach shaped like a small bay between two rocky clusters, with the larger northern cluster forming a small promontory that dominates the seafront. The beach is located in the municipality of Matosinhos in the Leça river basin.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified according to Decreto-Lei 135/2009. Monitoring occurs every 2 weeks. No days of bathing prohibition or warning due to short-term pollution events were recorded during the 2024 bathing season.

Risks

Faecal contamination may originate from the rainwater network, tributary rivers (Leça river and Ribeiro do Sardoal) that empty near the bathing water, and the Leixões Seaport. Short-term pollution (less than 72 hours) is unlikely but may occur due to excessive tributary stream flow during precipitation or rainwater network contamination. Cyanobacteria have a moderate proliferation potential with a history of bloom occurrence. Macroalgae and phytoplankton have low proliferation potential with no history of occurrence.
