Badesee Großsander is an inland lake created between 1985 and 1989 through sand excavation for the A28 motorway construction between Westerstede and Leer. The lake is fed by groundwater and has a drainage outlet. The catchment area is restricted to lawn areas directly adjacent to the water body through boundary embankments. The recreational facility offers swimming in designated swimmer and non-swimmer areas along with additional water sports and leisure activities.
