Badesø Gymnasieparken is a bathing beach established in 2021 on the eastern shore of a freshwater lake in a park setting adjacent to Skive Gymnasium in Denmark. The beach features a curved 65-metre stretch with a 30-metre-wide sand beach and sandy bottom extending approximately 25 metres to a depth of 1.5 metres. Water temperature during the bathing season ranges from 10°C to 22°C. The lake is a closed system with minimal water movement, dependent primarily on wind direction.

Water

Freshwater lake. Beach length: approximately 65 metres curved stretch. Sand beach width: 30 metres. Sandy bottom extending approximately 25 metres to a depth of 1.5 metres with a depth gradient of approximately 30 centimetres per 5 metres from the shore. The lake has an outlet north of the bathing area with no inlet. Water temperature in summer ranges from 10°C to 22°C.

Location

Located in a park adjacent to Skive Gymnasium in Skive, Denmark. Accessible via pathway systems from the gymnasium's parking areas and via trails from Brårupvej and Egerisvej to the east of the lake. GPS coordinates: X 501726, Y 6268038. Parking available at the gymnasium.

Season

1 May to 15 September. Water quality monitoring occurs during this period.

Water Quality

The bathing beach was newly established in 2021 and water quality has not yet been classified. The municipality expects good to excellent quality water as there is no direct sewage discharge to the lake. Routine water quality monitoring during the bathing season tests for indicator bacteria: E. coli and enterococci. Quality is classified as excellent, good, satisfactory, or poor.

Risks

Risk of blue-green algae blooms in summer periods with rainfall followed by high temperatures, as the lake is a closed system with minimal water movement. High risk of mass blooms of diatoms and green algae during the bathing season. Risk of recurring pollen accumulations, particularly from pine pollen in spring and early summer, which can cause temporary poor water quality. No risk from faecal contamination as there is no sewage discharge. Minimal risk of chemical pollution as there is no boating or motorised activities on the lake. Dogs must be kept on leads from 1 April to 30 September.
