Lyby Strand

Lyby Strand is a bathing beach located in the northwestern end of Skive Fjord. The beach stretches approximately 700 meters long and 5–10 meters wide, consisting mainly of sand with smaller stones, narrowing at the northern end where larger stones are present. The seabed comprises mixed gravel and stones, making it shallow and child-friendly, with 100–200 meters distance from the shore to 2 meters depth. Water temperature varies between 10 °C and 22 °C during the bathing season. The beach is sheltered by breakwaters.

Water

Part of Skive Fjord. Beach length approximately 700 meters, width 5–10 meters. Seabed composed of mixed gravel and stones. Distance from shore to 2 meters depth is 100–200 meters. Water temperature ranges from 10 °C to 22 °C during bathing season. Salinity: saltwater.

Location

Located in the northwestern end of Skive Fjord near Roslev. GPS reference: Lyby Strand, Lyby Strandvej 35, 7870 Roslev. Parking is available at the kiosk on Lyby Strandvej.

Facilities

Kiosk (Lyby Strand Grill og Kiosk), tables and benches at kiosk, bathing pier (installed in summer), rescue rings, rescue station, toilet, mooring place for small boats at kiosk.

Season

Bathing season covers the period from April to September (as referenced for dog restrictions and water temperature variations).

Water Quality

Water quality classified as 'excellent', the highest classification under bathing water regulations. Classification based on data from 2016–2019 for E. coli and enterococci. Bacterial concentrations are low and relatively stable, though 2010 showed greater variation in E. coli concentrations.

Risks

Risk of algal blooms (microscopic algae species) during bathing season. High risk of washed-up seaweed and eelgrass, especially in northern section. Possible blue-green algae in low-salinity areas. Low risk of chemical pollution from ship spills. Low risk of acute fecal contamination. Low risk of oxygen depletion due to shallow water and current conditions. Pollen accumulation occurs in spring/early summer period. Potential for invasive Pacific oysters (currently not present on beach). Possibility of blue-green algae toxins causing headache, skin irritation, fever, nausea, and diarrhea.
