Strandtangen is a 250-metre sandy beach located north of the leisure boat harbour near Skive city centre in Denmark. The beach and seabed consist of sand with some gravel and shells, with washed-up seaweed and shells sometimes visible in the water and on shallow areas. The beach is child-friendly and shallow, with the distance from the shore to 2 metres depth ranging from 200 to 500 metres. The sandy beach is approximately 20 metres wide, with a large green recreational area above it.

Water

Sandy beach with gravel and shells in Skive Fjord. Beach length: 250 metres. Beach width: approximately 20 metres. Distance from shore to 2 metres depth: 200–500 metres. Water temperature varies between 10 °C and 22 °C during the bathing season. Salinity: saltwater. Surface water current predominantly flows from south to north due to freshwater input at the southern end of the fjord, though wind conditions can cause significant variation.

Location

Located north of the leisure boat harbour near Skive city centre. GPS coordinates: Strandtangen, Strandvejen 36, 7800 Skive. Access via Strandvejen, turning at the leisure boat harbour which has good parking facilities.

Facilities

Toilet at the harbour. Barbecue areas. Tables and benches. Waste bins. Dogs must be kept on a leash from 1 April to 30 September.

Water Quality

Bathing water classified as 'excellent' quality, the highest classification under bathing water regulations. Classification based on E. coli and enterococci data from 2016–2019. Bacterial levels remain low and conditions are stable based on five years of monitoring data.

Risks

High risk of large quantities of washed-up seaweed and drifting algae. High risk of Pacific oysters (invasive species with sharp shells). Large risk of algal blooms of various microscopic algae species during bathing season. Low risk of blue-green algae due to high salinity. Low risk of faecal contamination from rainwater outlets and fecal pollution generally. Low risk of oxygen depletion due to shallow water depth and current conditions. Low risk of chemical pollution from ships. Returning phenomenon of pollen accumulation, which locally can affect water quality. Very low risk from oyster trawling waste.
