The Trois-Ilets municipality contains 18 km of coastline with sandy beaches, urbanised littoral areas, and mangrove. This bathing water profile document covers six designated bathing zones: Méridien, Bakoua, Anse Mitan, and three areas within Anse à l'Ane (Rue de la Dorade, Nid Tropical, and Hôtel Frantour). The profile was prepared in March 2011 to evaluate vulnerability and pollution risks at these bathing locations in accordance with European Directive 2006/7/CE.

Coastal marine bathing areas. The municipality has a total coastal length of 18 km with sandy beaches.

Location

Trois-Ilets commune in Martinique. The six bathing zones are located along the municipality's coastline: Pointe du Bout area (Méridien and Bakoua hotels), Anse Mitan (near windsurfing rental), and Anse à l'Ane (three zones near Rue de la Dorade, Nid Tropical restaurant, and Hôtel Frantour).

Facilities

Anse Mitan has showers and toilets near the rescue post. Bakoua beach has organised facilities between two hotel complexes. Various restaurants and recreational facilities (Ti Case Nautic club, Le Baracuda restaurant) are present. Anse à l'Ane has a fishing village at the northern end and a basketball court set back from the beach.

Water Quality

Water quality monitoring was conducted by the ARS (regional health authority) and DIREN (regional environmental authority) using RNO networks. The profile classified bathing water risk as type 2, indicating known or easily identifiable pollution causes. Classification evolved from the 1976 directive to the 2006/7/CE directive, introducing categories: excellent, good, sufficient, and insufficient.

Risks

Potential pollution sources identified include collective sewerage systems, non-collective sanitation (individual septic systems), stormwater drainage networks, and various activities. Moored boats are present at Anse Mitan and Anse à l'Ane. Meteorological and oceanographic conditions can favour pollution events.
