Båring Ege

Båring Ege is a bathing beach approximately 1 km long located in the eastern part of Båring Vig in Middelfart Municipality, Denmark. The beach consists of a sand and stone strip about 10 m wide with a cliff behind it. The western end is less suitable for bathing due to stones and algae deposits, while the eastern end becomes progressively more suitable with fewer stones and a wider beach. The seafloor is primarily sandy with some stones and vegetation of bladder wrack and green thread algae.

Water

Båring Vig is a shallow bay. The seabed consists primarily of sand with stones in the water near shore. Smaller clusters of bladder wrack and thread algae grow on the stones. Salinity is approximately 20 PSU (brackish water). Current direction generally follows tidal movement with no dominant flow direction and negligible current.

Location

The beach is located in the eastern part of Båring Vig near the towns of Båring and Brenderup in Middelfart Municipality. Access is via the eastern branch of Skyttevej, which leads to a public area at the cliff top. A parking lot is available at the public area above the beach.

Facilities

Parking lot, toilet building, disabled toilet, picnic tables, and waste sorting facilities are available on the public area above the beach. A rescue ring is installed on the beach.

Season

Official monitoring occurs with at least six water samples collected during the bathing season.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. This classification is based on measurements of enterococci and E. coli over the previous four years according to EU bathing water directive rules. The bathing water is affected by discharge from the Stor Å river, which is located 1.2 km from the eastern end of the beach. The largest source of faecal contamination is identified as overflow structures from combined sewer systems draining into the Stor Å system. Overflow from structure FE3050 is the primary source of faecal pollution from the Stor Å system.

Risks

Algae deposits, particularly macroalgae (seaweed) washups confined to the western end of the beach. Risk of cyanobacteria blooms is low; they occur primarily in the Baltic Sea and only spread to Båring Ege during prolonged easterly winds. No phytoplankton blooms have been observed in the past five years. Three locations on the beach have water drainage (drain/rainwater), including drainage from the summer house area.
