Vejlby Fed is a beach approximately 1.7 km long located in the western part of Båring Vig in Middelfart Municipality, Denmark. The beach consists predominantly of sand with few smaller stones and occasional mussel shells, except at the northern end where larger stones are present. Behind the beach is a strip of beach meadow with mixed low vegetation. A portion of the beach around the camping area is designated as a Blue Flag beach.

Water

Båring Vig in the western Baltic Sea. The water is generally shallow, with ankle-depth water extending far from shore. The seabed consists mostly of sand. Salinity is approximately 20 PSU (brackish water). Local divers report no significant currents; observations from 2010 show mostly no current, with eastward flow when currents are present.

Location

Vejlby Fed is located in Middelfart Municipality, approximately 10 km from Middelfart town centre. Access is available from the south via Hovkrogsvej or from the north via Kogagervej, with three main access roads: Antaresvej (leading to the official municipal bathing beach with parking), Rigelsvej (at the camping site with direct beach access), and Spikavej (with public boat launch area). Parking is available at all three access points.

Facilities

At Vejlby Fed Camping: parking, toilet building, waste sorting, playground, pétanque court, mini golf, and tennis court. At Middelfart Kommune's beach area (Antaresvej): parking and bicycle rest area with table and bench. At Spikavej: parking with table and bench. A bathing bridge is installed at the camping site. A rescue post is located below the camping area at the Blue Flag information board.

Season

Monitoring occurs during the bathing season with a minimum of 10 water samples taken throughout the season.

Water Quality

The beach is classified as EXCELLENT based on measurements of enterococci and E. coli over the past four years in accordance with EU bathing water directive rules. A control monitoring station is located at the beach and takes a minimum of 10 water samples during the bathing season.

Risks

A bathing prohibition extends 200 m from the Aulby Mølle Å outlet. Potential pollution sources include wastewater overflow structures from combined sewer systems in the catchment area, individual treatment plants with varying quality, and watercourses (Aulby Mølle Å and Klintholm stream). A contaminated site at Klintholmvej 69 (former tar works) is located approximately 10 m from the beach with PAH compounds and benzo(a)pyrene, though this is assessed not to pose a risk to swimmers. Birds, particularly gulls observed in shallow water, are a possible pollution source. The risk of cyanobacteria blooms is low; cyanobacteria occur primarily in the Baltic Sea and only spread to Vejlby Fed during prolonged easterly winds. No phytoplankton blooms have been observed in the past 5 years.
