Skåstrup V

Denmark Coastal 1 - Excellent

Skåstrup V is a 300-metre-long bathing beach on the northwestern coast of Funen facing the Kattegat strait. The beach is a wide, fine sandy shore with scattered small to medium-sized stones, and is 15 metres broad and 850 metres in total length. The beach is separated from a larger summer house area by a green space with benches offering scenic views. Water quality is classified as excellent, with no health risk under normal circumstances.

Water

Brackish water in the Kattegat strait. Water depth is under 2 metres approximately 300 metres from the shore. Current direction is variable with no primary flow direction. The seabed consists of fine sand with scattered small to medium-sized stones.

Location

Skåstrup, Nordfyns Kommune, Denmark. Access via Strandgyden road leading to a large car park with toilet facilities. Parking is not available in the summer house area.

Car park, toilet facilities, disabled access facilities, rescue ring, first aid kit, drinking water, emergency telephone, warning sign for deteriorated water quality, rubbish bins.

Season

Bathing season monitoring period. Classification revised annually in May before the bathing season start.

Water Quality

Water quality classification for 2016: Excellent. Classification based on routine monitoring samples analysed for E. coli and enterococci bacteria during the bathing season 2012-2015. Classification is reviewed annually before the start of the bathing season.

Risks

Storm water discharge outlets present risk of faecal contamination during rainfall; bathing is discouraged at these outlets. Low risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms. Low risk of phytoplankton blooms. Low risk of large quantities of macroalgae (seaweed) washing ashore. Emergency overflow at Skåstrup Strand treatment plant poses risk of short-term contamination, occurring very rarely during bathing season. Glass fragments and litter can occur on the beach. Very low risk of chemical pollution such as oil spills.
