Dæmningen is a bathing beach in the northern part of Little Belt near Strib, Denmark. The beach stretches approximately 1400 metres in length and 5–10 metres in width, consisting primarily of sand with occasional large stones at regular intervals. The western section features a belt of wild rose bushes up to 50 metres wide, while the eastern section transitions to holiday homes and year-round residences. Macroalgae are occasionally washed ashore. The beach is accessible via the Beach Path and the Causeway, with a rescue station located at the causeway.

Water

Little Belt (north section). Brackish water with salinity just under 20 PSU. Water depth varies from steep stoniness and sand on the western side to shallower sandy bottom with stones and macroalgae towards the east. Strong currents are present, particularly in the western section, largely dependent on tidal flow.

Location

Located in the northern part of Little Belt near Strib town, Denmark. The beach extends from a rescue post on the west to where buildings end on the east. Parking is available on the opposite side of the road from the public area at Dæmningen 47–49.

Facilities

Rescue post, toilet building, sauna with changing room, two benches, two waste bins at the public area (Dæmningen 47–49). Bathing piers are installed during the bathing season.

Season

Monitoring season with at least six water samples collected throughout the bathing season.

Water Quality

Classified as EXCELLENT based on enterococci and E. coli measurements over the past four years. No exceedances of limit values for E. coli and enterococci have been recorded within the last four years. Water quality monitoring is conducted at station Dæmningen (UTM 549292/32 in UTMZone DKBW526).

Risks

Risk of faecal contamination from combined sewer overflows during overflow events. Four overflow structures can discharge to Little Belt or Røjle Mose watercourse. Occasionally washed-up macroalgae are present. Low risk of cyanobacteria blooms and phytoplankton blooms. Soil contamination at Dæmningen 85 (formerly a ship landing site) from PAH compounds and benz(a)pyrene does not pose immediate health risks for current use but could present risks during excavation or future sensitive land use.
