The Barra bathing water is located at Meia Laranja beach at the mouth of the Ria de Aveiro estuary. It is subject to the influence of the Ria de Aveiro regarding its quality and hydrodynamics. The beach is classified as Type I, surrounded by a consolidated urban nucleus with strong demand and benefiting from various infrastructures and equipment.

Location

Municipality of Ílhavo, at the mouth of the Ria de Aveiro estuary. Monitoring point coordinates: Latitude 40.64268, Longitude -8.748571.

Season

June 7 to September 14, 2025.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored with a sampling frequency of once every two weeks. No history of short-term pollution episodes (duration ≤72 hours). Zero days of bathing prohibition or advisory due to short-term pollution events in the 2024 bathing season.

Risks

Potential microbiological pollution sources include port, domestic, industrial and recreational activities, increased rainfall, solid waste from beach activities, marine litter, bird colonies, and high number of users. Macroalgae and phytoplankton proliferation are likely; cyanobacteria proliferation is less likely.
