Location

Municipality of Aveiro, Portugal. Monitoring point coordinates: Latitude 40.6698°, Longitude -8.7480°.

Facilities

Infrastructure and equipment available. An alert system monitors water quality and provides information to bathers about necessary measures if quality changes occur.

Season

Official bathing season runs from June 7 to September 14, 2025. Sampling frequency is once every two weeks.

Water Quality

Water quality classified according to Portuguese legislation (Decreto-Lei 135/09, amended by Decreto-Lei 113/2012). Potential microbiological pollution sources include port and urban activities, urban effluents from a submarine outfall north of the bathing water, beach activity waste, marine litter, bird colonies, and high user numbers. No short-term pollution episodes occurred during the 2024 bathing season.

Risks

Phytoplankton proliferation is likely. Cyanobacteria and macroalgae proliferation are unlikely. Potential pollution sources from urban and port activities exist.
