Marine bathing site in the Mediterranean Sea. Maximum water temperature reaches 26°C in summer. Two watercourses, the Batailler and Vieille, drain the watershed and flow into the bathing area.

Location

Le Lavandou, France. The site is situated between the Batailler and Vieille watercourses. A parking area is located 50 metres from the bathing zone. Numerous restaurants and infrastructure are present approximately 10 metres from the site.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Good (2022 season). The site is monitored under the 2006 European directive framework. Monitoring confirms the site is compliant with bathing water standards. The catchment area includes agricultural lands (3 hectares of viticulture) and multiple pollution sources including sewage systems, stormwater networks, and mooring zones.

Risks

Risk of pollution from sewage pumping station malfunctions during heavy rainfall or storm events. Stormwater runoff from the watershed carries pollutants including fecal matter, pesticides, fertilisers, hydrocarbons, and mineral oils. Illegal wastewater discharges from restaurants and infrastructure may occur. Boat mooring in the bathing zone creates risk of fecal contamination and hydrocarbon pollution. Phytoplankton species including Ostreopsis, Dinophysis, and Prorocentum present a risk of proliferation. Pollution events are typically brief (under 72 hours) and rare.
