Lavandou Ville is a natural beach bathing site in the Lavandou commune, located in the Mediterranean. The site received an excellent water quality classification in the 2022 monitoring season according to European directive standards. The beach experiences significant summer tourism with approximately 2,500 users per day. Water pollution events are rare and typically short-lived, occurring primarily following heavy rainfall episodes.

Water

A Mediterranean bathing area with maximum water temperature of 26°C in summer. The site is bordered by a mooring zone and features nearby stream systems (Batailler and Vieille watercourses).

Location

The bathing site is located in Le Lavandou, a commune in the Var department. Parking is available 10 metres from the bathing zone. The site is situated near numerous restaurants and infrastructure facilities.

Facilities

Rescue post present at the site. Public information signage and water quality awareness panels available. Toilets and showers inferred from standard beach amenities.

Season

Official monitoring conducted during 2022 season. Heavy rainfall episodes are relatively rare during high summer tourism season.

Water Quality

Classified as EXCELLENT and CONFORME according to the 2006 European directive. The 2022 monitoring season confirmed excellent classification. Potential pollution sources include wastewater overflow from pumping stations (150 metres from beach), a sea outfall (1,200 metres), stormwater networks, agricultural runoff, restaurant infrastructure, parking areas, and boat mooring activities. Phytoplankton species (Ostreopsis, Dinophysis, Prorocentrum) present a concern for proliferation risk due to organic matter pollution.

Risks

Risk of faecal matter pollution during heavy rainfall episodes due to wastewater network overflow, lasting up to several days. Stormwater runoff from the catchment area can carry pesticides, fertilisers, hydrocarbons, and mineral oils. Mooring zone presents momentary pollution risk from boat discharge. Phytoplankton proliferation risk identified due to organic pollution from nearby wastewater treatment. Macro algae and cyanobacteria have no identified proliferation risk at this site.
