Lithuania Lake 1 - Excellent

Bėlio Lake is a bathing water body located in the Dauguvos River basin in Lithuania. The lake has a semi-natural shoreline surrounded by forest. The beach is approximately 150 meters long with mud and sand as the dominant sediment types. The bathing area has an average water depth of 1.5 meters and a maximum depth of 3.0 meters. The site can accommodate approximately 200 visitors during peak season under favorable weather conditions.

Location

Švenčionių District, Švenčionių Municipality, Švenčionių Eldership in Lithuania. The lake is located in the Sirvėtos Regional Park area with nearby settlements of Bėlio and Kochanovka villages.

Facilities

Two shelter pavilions, children's play equipment, volleyball court, trampoline, two changing cabins, benches, one toilet, waste management with 1.1 cubic meter capacity container for mixed municipal waste and trash bins. No restriction on bringing pets to the beach.

Official water quality monitoring covers the bathing season period. Water quality characteristics updated in 2024; next update planned if water quality changes from excellent to good, satisfactory, or poor.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as excellent from 2018 to 2024 according to Directive 2006/7/EB requirements. No concentrated pollution sources identified in the impact zone. Diffuse pollution sources possible from surface rainwater runoff from surrounding forest. Phosphorus and nitrogen levels not tested; visual monitoring of cyanobacteria was conducted. No tests for cyanobacteria, macroalgae, or marine phytoplankton proliferation trends were performed.

Risks

Short-term pollution possible during heavy rainfall, which typically disappears within 1–2 days after rain ends. Possible eutrophication effects from natural sources or human activity. Sėtikės stream flows into the lake from the east. The lake connects to Bėlaitis Lake on the southern side.
