Lithuania Lake 1 - Excellent

Gavio Lake is a bathing site located in the Žeimena river basin within Ignalinos municipality in the Utena district of Lithuania. The beach is publicly managed and features sand and small pebble substrate. The shoreline is natural with sparse aquatic vegetation including reeds, sedges, and water-milfoil along the edges. Trees and shrubs grow along the bank. Water quality has met excellent quality standards from 2018 to 2024.

Water

Lake within the Žeimena sub-basin of the Nemuno river basin. Beach length is 300 meters. Average water depth is 1.5 meters with a maximum depth of 4 meters. Water temperature data based on the last four bathing seasons. Annual precipitation in the basin is 740 millimeters, with highest precipitation in August and lowest in May. Rainfall in the influence zone is 598.1 millimeters.

Located in Ignalinos city area, Ignalinos municipality, Utena district, Lithuania. The beach is situated on the territory of Ignalinos city within the administrative division of Ignalinos city eldership.

Facilities

Two outdoor toilets, four changing cabins, drinking water tap, volleyball court, outdoor tennis court, children's play area, waste bins and domestic waste containers. Dogs and other domestic animals are prohibited.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: excellent quality from 2018 to 2024 in accordance with Directive 2006/7/EB. The water body has good ecological status and meets good ecological potential requirements. No point-source pollution exists. Water transparency is monitored. Eutrophication impact is natural and not caused by human activity. Short-term pollution possible after heavy rainfall from improper visitor activities.
