Lithuania Lake 1 - Excellent

Ilgio lake is a public bathing site located in the Žeimena river sub-basin within the Nemunas river basin in Lithuania. The lake is situated in the territory of Ignalina city within Ignalinos district in the Utenos county. Water quality from 2018 to 2024 consistently met excellent quality requirements according to Directive 2006/7/EB standards.

Water

Lake (Ilgio ežeras) located in the Žeimena river sub-basin. Beach length is 50 metres. Average water depth is 1.2 metres. Maximum water depth is 2.5 metres and increases gradually. Beach composition consists of sand and small pebbles. The shoreline is natural with sand and grass soil composition. Water vegetation including reeds, sedge and iris are present in some areas, protruding above the water surface.

Located in Ignalina city, Ignalinos district, Utenos county, Lithuania. Coordinates: X=55.3484, Y=26.1791. The bathing site is part of the Ignalina city municipality administered by the municipal administration of Ignalinos district.

Facilities

Two outdoor toilets and two changing cabins are available. Waste management includes waste bins and domestic waste containers. Dogs and other domestic animals are prohibited on the beach.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (puiki kokybė) from 2018 to 2024. Water quality monitoring has been conducted consistently. Annual precipitation in the basin is 740 mm with highest rainfall in August and lowest in May. No point source pollution or diffuse pollution sources are present in the impact zone. Short-term pollution is possible following heavy rainfall or improper public behaviour.

Risks

Short-term pollution may occur following heavy rainfall or due to inappropriate visitor behaviour. No algal blooms, large algae, or marine phytoplankton studies were conducted.
