Lake Hossegor contains four designated bathing beaches: Parc, Rey, Blanche, and Chênes Lièges. The lake is located in the Landes department in southwestern France. These beaches are monitored for water quality and recreational safety throughout the bathing season.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored through regular bacteriological controls and self-monitoring (autocontrôle). Monitoring includes testing for E. coli and enterococci. Cyanobacteria monitoring is conducted according to a regional alert and monitoring protocol. Historical data shows occasional non-conformities in bacteriological results. Rainfall events are correlated with water quality deterioration.

Risks

Cyanobacteria proliferation is a vulnerability monitored at the lake. Storm water discharges and wastewater infrastructure present potential pollution sources. Port activities at Capbreton and contributions from the Bourret-Boudigau watershed may affect water quality.
