Lake Hossegor contains four designated bathing beaches: Parc, Rey, Chênes Lièges, and Blanche. The lake is located in the Landes department in southwestern France. These beaches are subject to regular bacteriological monitoring and cyanobacteria surveillance. Water quality is tracked through official sanitary controls and self-monitoring programmes.

Water

Freshwater lake. The lake receives water from the Bourret-Boudigau watershed. Rainfall patterns show seasonal variation with summer precipitation averaging measured values over 2014-2016.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified through sanitary control programmes monitoring bacteriological indicators. Results are categorized as conforming, mean, or non-conforming. Monitoring data available from 2000 onwards. Cyanobacteria monitoring conducted under regional alert and surveillance protocol. Historical episodes of pollution documented at lake scale.

Risks

Cyanobacteria proliferation is a potential risk. Wastewater discharges from two treatment plants (STEP Capbreton and STEP Benesse-Maremne) influence water quality. Stormwater runoff represents a pollution source, particularly during heavy rainfall events. Agricultural activities in the watershed present diffuse pollution risk.
