The Bodensee (Lake Constance) is the third-largest inland lake in Central Europe, shared by Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. The Wocherhafen Bregenz is a bathing area located on the Austrian shore. The lake experienced severe eutrophication in the late 1970s due to untreated sewage discharges, but systematic expansion of wastewater treatment facilities in the catchment area has substantially improved water quality. The bathing water is monitored regularly for microbiological quality and is classified according to bathing water regulations.

Water

Bodensee (Lake Constance), the third-largest inland lake in Central Europe. Mean depth at the bathing area is 13 metres. Maximum depth at the bathing area is 20 metres. Available bathing shoreline is approximately 120 metres. Water renewal time for the lake is approximately 4.6 years.

Bregenz, Austria. The bathing area is located at Wocherhafen Bregenz on the Bodensee.

Facilities

Showers and toilets are available. Lifeguard supervision is provided during the bathing season. Dogs and other pets are prohibited at the bathing area.

Season

Bathing water quality is monitored from June to September.

Water Quality

Microbiological water quality data for the past 5 years has been evaluated. No exceedances of limit values were recorded in recent years. The water body is classified with good ecological and chemical status.

Risks

Risk of short-term pollution lasting less than 72 hours exists. Stormwater runoff from urban areas and occasional overflow events from combined sewer systems are identified pollution sources.
