Bogense Strandbad

Bogense Strandbad is an artificial sand beach located on the western side of Bogense Harbour on the north coast of Funen facing the Kattegat. The beach is up to 70 metres wide and 100 metres long, with fine sand composition. It is situated at the end of the mole of the busy Blue Flag Harbour, which offers good facilities including food services, playground, and toilet facilities. The beach features activities such as beach volleyball and basketball.

Water

Brackish water in the Kattegat. Current direction is variable with no primary flow direction. Water depth under 2 metres extends approximately 700 metres from the shore on the north-facing part of the beach.

Location

Bogense, western side of Bogense Harbour on the north coast of Funen. Access via Marinavej leading to a large parking area.

Lifeguards, toilet facilities, drinking water, disabled access, waste bins, waste sorting, rescue ring, shower, first aid kit, emergency telephone, parking, restaurant.

Season

1 June to 1 September.

Water Quality

Classified as Excellent quality for 2016, based on control samples from 2012–2015 monitoring period. Classification is based on levels of E. coli and enterococci indicator bacteria. No known fecal pollution sources have been identified in the area surrounding the beach.

Risks

Deep holes and soft bottom on the southern and western parts of the beach create unpredictable currents and sudden depressions in the seabed. Swimming is discouraged in the harbour area due to collision risk and health hazards. Low risk of cyanobacteria blooms. Low risk of phytoplankton blooms. Low risk of large macroalgae deposits. Glass shards and litter may occur. Very low risk of chemical pollution such as oil spills. Sudden contamination can occur from accidents involving pleasure boats, slurry tanks, and sewage lines.
