Bøgeskov Strand is located approximately 7.5 km north of Fredericia, extending about 1.6 km along the coast of Vejle Fjord. The bathing area spans roughly 500 metres in length and 20–30 metres in width, comprising fine sand. The beach is designated as a Blue Flag beach and features a large publicly accessible recreational area characterised as coastal grassland. The water depth ranges from 0.5–1.5 metres near the shore to approximately 2 metres at 100 metres from the coast.

Water

Coastal bathing area on Vejle Fjord. The bathing zone is approximately 500 metres long and 20–30 metres wide. Water depth is 0.5–1.5 metres in the bathing area, extending to approximately 2 metres at 100 metres from the shore. The seabed consists of fine sand. Salinity ranges from 20–22 ‰. Current direction is highly variable and influenced by wind direction, with no primary current direction.

Location

Bøgeskov Strand is situated approximately 7.5 km north of Fredericia city, along Vejle Fjord. Access is available from Nederhøllsvej with good parking facilities nearby.

Facilities

Blue Flag designated beach. Facilities include toilet facilities, rescue equipment, tables, and benches. Dogs are prohibited from the beach between 1 June and 15 September in accordance with Blue Flag criteria. Dogs must be kept on a lead between 1 April and 30 September under nature protection legislation.

Season

1 June to 15 September.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as 'excellent', the highest classification available. Water quality is monitored 10 times during the bathing season, with results publicly displayed at the beach and on the municipality's website. Classification is based on analysis data from the preceding four years.

Risks

Low risk of faecal pollution from Spang Å discharge at the northern part of the beach. Risk of cyanobacterial blooms is generally low but may occur during extended warm periods in summer. Risk of phytoplankton mass blooms is low. Risk of macroalgae (seaweed) accumulation is low during summer. Stonefish may be present in shallow water during summer months; stepping on stonefish spines can cause pain, treated with hot water immersion at 40–45°C for 30–60 minutes. Sea nettles (jellyfish) may occur in Vejle Fjord during summer, particularly in July and August, causing burning sensations and possible blistering. Glass fragments, litter, discarded objects, and chemical pollution including oil spills may occasionally occur. Combined sewer system overflows during heavy rainfall pose a risk of faecal contamination via Egeskov stream and Spang Å.
