Borlefzener See is an artificial lake bathing area located in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The swimming area spans 100 metres of shoreline on a 9-hectare lake created through gravel extraction. The bathing water has maintained an excellent classification for four consecutive years from 2015 to 2018.

Location

Borlefzener See/DLRG-Strand is located in Vlotho in Herford district. The bathing area is operated by Familienfreizeitplatz GmbH at Borlefzenstr. 2, 32602 Vlotho. The site is at an elevation of 45.6 metres above sea level.

Water Quality

The bathing water was rated as excellent in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018. No recognizable sources of regular water quality contamination have been identified. Sediment turbidity may occur after heavy rain or storms. There are no reported microbiological or chemical contaminations in sediments.

Risks

During Weser River flooding, the bathing lake can be inundated and contaminants from the Weser may enter the lake, though negative impacts on bathing water quality have not been observed to date. Frequent bird presence causes contamination from bird droppings. Small motorless watercraft are permitted. Water turbidity occurs after heavy rain or storms due to sediment suspension.
