Boschettino

Italy Lake 3 - Sufficient

Boschettino is a free-access pebble beach located on the eastern shore of Lake Maggiore near Germignaga, a few kilometres from the town centre and the city of Luino. The beach is situated at 197 metres above sea level and has an area of 0.146 square kilometres. It features a green area with benches and nearby refreshment points. The water quality is classified as good based on monitoring data from 2019–2022.

Water

Lake Maggiore. The bathing area extends 0.146 square kilometres with an altitude of 197 metres above sea level. The hydrographic basin is the Ticino River.

Location

Germignaga, Lombardy, Varese province, on the eastern shore of Lake Maggiore, a few kilometres from the town centre and the city of Luino. Adequate parking is available.

Facilities

Refreshment points nearby, benches in green area, adequate parking. Animals are permitted.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: good (reference period 2019–2022). Monitoring is conducted via the Pallanza buoy (CNR and ARPA) which tracks pathogenic bacteria including Escherichia coli, intestinal Enterococci, and cyanobacteria. The depurifier serving the area respects discharge limits. The SIMILE project manages and safeguards the lake with citizen participation.

Risks

Potential risks from unfavourable meteorological conditions such as heavy weather events, soil runoff, water accumulation, and spills of various kinds. Possible unauthorized discharges of wastewater or polluting debris. In 2021, a hydrocarbon pollution incident in the adjacent area was promptly remediated. Seasonal algal blooms are possible, though no regulatory threshold exceedances have been recorded in the last three years.
