Cabanas-Mar and Cabanas Poente is a coastal bathing water located on a beach with restricted use on Cabanas Island. The beach features wide golden sand with dunes and typical diversified flora, and is situated within the Natural Park of Ria Formosa, a Natura 2000 protected site, and a RAMSAR designated area. The beach extends 500 metres along the coast.

Location

Located in Tavira municipality. Monitoring point coordinates: Latitude 37.1335°, Longitude -7.5897° (ETRS 89).

Season

1 June to 30 September 2024. Monthly sampling frequency.

Water Quality

Water quality classification 2023 complies with Decreto-Lei 135/09 of 3 June. No pollution sources exist in the vicinity. No days of bathing prohibition or advisory due to short-term pollution occurred during the 2023 bathing season.

Risks

Microbiological contamination is unlikely but may occur seldom during heavy storms at sea involving long-distance transport of pollutants. Proliferation potential for cyanobacteria is unlikely, for macroalgae uncommon, and for phytoplankton unlikely.
