Campi Tennis Ponte Rosso is a bathing beach in Senigallia, Ancona province, in the Marche region. The beach features fine quartz-feldspar and limestone-flint sand with a 3% average slope. The water extends approximately 80 metres from medium-low to high tide (safe water limit), with astronomical tides of 30–50 centimetres. The surrounding area contains urban settlements and tourist facilities with a railway line passing through.

Coastal bathing water at Senigallia (Senigallia_Ancona water body). The beach area extends 0.91574 hectares. Water distance from shore: approximately 80 metres to safe water limit. Astronomical tidal range: 30–50 centimetres. The basin is named Litorale tra Misa e Fosso Rubiano.

Location

Senigallia, Ancona province, Marche region. The beach is 500 metres long and 70 metres wide. Parking and facilities are available at nearby bars, restaurants, bathrooms and beach establishments. The competent authority is the Municipality of Senigallia, with offices at Piazza Roma 8, 60019 Senigallia.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: E. A treatment plant with capacity of 20,000 cubic metres per day (100,000 population equivalent) serves the municipality. Escherichia coli monitoring in 2010 showed variable results: January 10 CFU/100 ml; March 300 CFU/100 ml; May–June 80 CFU/100 ml; August 10 CFU/10 ml; September 20 CFU/100 ml; other months below detection limit. An anomalous event occurred on 4 April 2007 when fuel oil leaked from a refinery pipeline, causing closure of the bathing area until cleaning was completed on 23 April 2007.

Risks

Combined sewer system overflow during heavy rainfall. Fitoplancton proliferation events documented; specifically, Fibrocapsa japonica algal bloom occurred throughout August 2009, causing reddish-brown discoloration and oily water consistency. In 2007, a fuel oil spill from refinery operations contaminated the beach.
