Canale Bufaloria is a beach in Scanzano Jonico, Basilicata, characterized by very fine sand. The surrounding area is populated by numerous urban settlements and structures connected to tourism activities, which are concentrated mainly during the summer season coinciding with the bathing period.

Location

Scanzano Jonico, Matera Province, Basilicata Region. The sampling point is located 100 meters north of Canale Bufaloria at coordinates 40.246858 -16.750756. The bathing area extends from 40.246858 -16.750756 to 40.248983 -16.751428.

Season

1 May to 30 September. No bathing bans were in effect for the 2020 bathing season.

Water Quality

Classification period: 2017–2020. Monitoring conducted monthly from 1 April to 30 September. A non-bathing zone exists at the Fosso Valle-Bufaloria discharge, with a width of 40 meters around the outlet.

Risks

Discharge from Canale Fosso Valle-Bufaloria creates a designated non-bathing zone. A 5-meter strip from the waterline is designated to ensure free passage.
