Canale Tagliata Sud is a sandy beach located in Cesenatico, Emilia-Romagna, extending from the South Pier of Canale Tagliata to the perpendicular extension of Viale Cabral into the sea. The beach is 60–70 metres wide and has a natural seafloor with submerged bars. The area is highly frequented for tourism with numerous hotels and beach establishments.

Water

Coastal marine water body classified as alluvial plain with high stability. The area extends 0.301 km². The Canale Tagliata discharges into the sea near Zadina in Cesenatico, with two small piers extending approximately 20 metres beyond the shoreline.

Location

Cesenatico, Forlì-Cesena Province, Emilia-Romagna region. The bathing area extends from Canale Tagliata South Pier to the perpendicular extension of Viale Cabral. Two beach establishments are present with first aid services.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as Excellent for the period 2020–2023. Escherichia coli: 90th percentile 24 CFU/100 ml, 95th percentile 29 CFU/100 ml. Enterococcus: 90th percentile 10 CFU/100 ml, 95th percentile 10 CFU/100 ml. Nine stormwater discharges from Cervia flow into the Canale Tagliata. Wastewater from Cervia is treated at a treatment plant compliant with Directive 91/271/CEE and discharged into Canale Via Cupa Nuovo.

Risks

Potential for eutrophication exists due to the presence of Canale Tagliata. Phytoplankton bloom (Raphidophycea Fibrocapsa japonica) was recorded in July 2022. Short-duration pollution events may occur during exceptional precipitation or strong storms when bypass gates are opened, releasing water from Porto Canale through Canale Tagliata.
