Water

Coastal water body. Area: 0.781 km². Located in the Ceriale-Finale water body, classified as mountain ranges with low stability coastal waters.

Location

Ceriale, Savona Province, Liguria region. The beach is located in the urban center of Ceriale, accessible via the Diaz promenade with nearby railway and state road SS1 infrastructure.

Private beach establishments with services, restaurant facilities, and accommodation structures.

Water Quality

Water quality classification for 2021–2024: GOOD. An emergency discharge pipe is located approximately 100 metres east of the sampling station and discharges offshore approximately 200 metres from the shore, outside the bathing water area. No treatment plants are present within the bathing area.

Risks

Sewage discharge risk during heavy precipitation events may transport waste downstream from the Rio San Rocco and Rio Fontane river mouths, which flow directly into the bathing water. Microalgae proliferation of Ostreopsis ovata has been recorded in the region, with reference station MCAD at Pietra Ligure registering values between 10,000–30,000 cells/litre in July 2021, August 2022, and July 2023 and 2024. Inhalation of Ostreopsis ovata aerosol can cause temporary and reversible respiratory tract problems and febrile states in sensitive individuals.
