Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2008–2011). No wastewater treatment plants or active discharge systems are present. The Ligurian Sea is characterized by oligotrophic conditions, which prevent cyanobacterial blooms. No toxic algal strains have been recorded in the past four years.

Risks

River mouth (foce fluviale) identified as a pollution source. A modeling approach for characterizing short-duration pollution events and anomalous situations is under development.
