Capo Mimosa is a sandy beach located within a camping facility on a rocky coastline in the Liguria region. The beach is classified as excellent for bathing water quality based on the 2021-2024 four-year assessment. The area is part of the Diano Marina-Andora water body and includes private beach establishments as well as public beach access.

Coastal water classified as mountainous terrain with low stability (CWA3). Area extent: 2.139 km. Part of the Diano Marina-Andora water body.

Location

Water Quality

Classification: Excellent (2021-2024 assessment period). No wastewater treatment plants or sewage pipelines are present within the bathing water. The S. Bartolomeo sewage treatment plant is located approximately 2.5 km west outside the bathing water with a discharge pipe that releases into the sea.

Risks

Two minor stream mouths discharge into the bathing water. During heavy rainfall and upstream issues, increased stream flow may transport wastewater downstream. The Ligurian Sea is characterized by oligotrophic conditions that prevent cyanobacteria blooms. Ostreopsis ovata microalgae blooms have been observed in Liguria over the past decade; the bathing water is included in Area 3 of the regional Ostreopsis monitoring network. The reference station at Diano Marina showed no exceedances of the 30,000 cells/litre limit between 2020 and 2024. Ostreopsis ovata can produce temporary and reversible respiratory effects through aerosol inhalation in sensitive individuals.
